Australian Floral Art Association Inc - 'Nature's Network 2004' Dianne Buckles provided the State Demonstration for the West Australian Floral Art Society Inc which was titled : 'Western Australia - A State of Diversity'. Held at the 3rd Australian Flower Show in Windsor NSW - Friday the 254th September 2004. Report compiled by Dianne Buckles... Providing the State Demonstration gave me a wonderful opportunity to spend time and work back stage with other State Demonstrators and renewing friendships with Norma and Mervyn Gordon (T
This was a most enjoyable time organising the State Demonstration which I titled : Western Australia ‘A State of Diversity;’ from ‘Magnificent Massifs to Cavernous Caves’. I took a little ‘artistic license’ in my demonstration and interpreted the diversity of our State by using FROM and COLOUR. I included six very very large Mangrove roots (some 5 foot tall) and used these beautiful roots to to interpret the various land formations around out state. The plant material and colour represented our rich landscape. Plant materials such as the 'Pistachio' Anthiriums, ‘Leonidas’ Roses, long Red and Yellow orchids, deep red Liliums, palm, ferns and other tropical materials were combined to create this large colourful exhibit.
The 350million year old 'Bungle Bungles' located in the far north Kimberley region were the first land formations discussed followed by the intricate cave system at Tunnel Creek - where other long Mangrove roots were hung representing stalagmites. My talk then took the audience on a panorama of Western Australian landmarks including the Giant Ant Hills, Wave Rock, the eerie Pinnacles through to the beautiful Lake & Jewel Caves in the Margaret River area where I included some 15 long (3 foot) jewelled designs I had made featuring small crystals.
My final talk was based around the Ancient Empire located in the Valley of the Giants where the gnarled old twisted tingle trees were again represented by the Mangrove roots. To complete the design Each
demonstrator was presented with a certificate of Appreciation and a beautiful
hand made diary complete with an embroidered ‘Waratah’ and hand
painted matching ‘Waratah’ pen. This was a wonderful experience and having Eileen as an ‘assistant’ made this time even more special. How lucky we are to have such wonderful friends and special occasions to foster these friendships.
Additional ‘Reports’ from members attending these competitions will be compiled shortly.

Debbie Skroza designed the State Exhibit for the West Australian Floral Art Society Inc which was titled : 'Stretch Your Imagination' and designed by Debbie Skroza Report written by Julia Wates..
These exhibits were staged in the main foyer. Each state was given an area which was backed in silver painted corrugated material. Debbie used two placements of silver painted bamboo, linked with a silver weldmesh grid with bamboo poles slotted through the weld mesh which was secured towards the top of the exhibit. Deb chose lovely contemporary colours of hot pink and lime green which worked very well with the silver - good bit of WOW there. Hot pink roses and finger palms together with the lime green button hot house chrysanthemums formed the base of the 2 placements with more hot pink roses vertically placed alongside the bamboo. The hot pink gerberas placed in tubes were slotted through the weld mesh held in place by beautifully crocheted hot pink collars - very clever and effective. Many thanks to Chris for her expertise with the collars. A lovely exhibit which gained a 3rd place popularity vote from the public. Congratulations to Debbie - again we have to remember the effort it takes to get all the equipment over there - a feat in itself.
Saturday the 2nd October to Saturday the 9th October.
Members worked in pairs designing fantastic arrangements incorporating the striking large green anthiriums, long yellow orchids, elegant strelitzias, pincushion proteas and hundreds of stems of ferns, palm and other plant material representing a lush rainforest scene. The tallest of the designs was in excess of 10 feet and included 3 placements of materials cascading over tall metal stands. Other designs, staged at various heights on the tall metal stands, created interest and impact. To finish the design a large free form pond approximately 6 foot long meandered through the display. Lush tropical potted plants were interspersed throughout the display creating other pockets of interest and giving balance to the completed design. creating this wonderful display provided an excellent opportunity for members to work together outside of monthly meetings and share our passion for flower arranging. The response from the public was fantastic and hundreds of photos were taken of this display. Special Thanks to the following Members for giving so generously of their time and expertise. Debbie Skroza, Dianne Buckles, Mary Kanair, Maureen Young, Sara Quail, Celine Lee, Dorothy Harbisher, Shirley Mitchell, Brenda King, Jane Merrals, Joan
Boorman, Coralie Shattock.
