MasterClass Workshops on Sunday the 12th September 2010

Entry to MasterClass Workshops - entry to be
determined by each of the 7 AFAA State Member
groups)

Saturday the 11th September, talented
national demonstrators including :

be providing floral demonstrations representing their
state to the theme of 'From Around this Country'

Clement Lee (WA)
will also be conducting Workshops on Friday the 10th September
2010 at the Rendezvous Hotel

It
is with much pleasure that the West Australian Floral Art Society and the
Australian Floral Art Association welcomes HITOMI
GILLIAM AIFD to Western Australia
where
she will be providing a SPECTACULAR FLORAL DEMONSTRATION as well as
conducting 2 Special MasterClass Workshops
at
the 4th Australian Floral Design Convention ‘Floral Rendezvous 2010’.
Hitomi
is a keynote lecturer, demonstrator, instructor, consultant and personal coach
in all aspects of the Art of Flowers and Floral Design.
She
is currently a Creative & Education Director for DESIGN358, a floral
design school, event and management company and was inducted into
American
Institute of Floral Designers (AIFD) in 1986.
Hitomi
was the Silver Medallist in 1986 at the Great American Design Competition, which
was held in New York and the following year was
the Gold Medallist in Las
Vegas and
was the featured Designer at AIFD National Symposium in 1987, 1988, 1990, 1994,
2003, 2005 & 2007 and has
guest-designed throughout North
America, England, Japan, Mexico, Taiwan, Singapore and Hong Kong.
She
has lectured at Art Gallery of Ontario (Toronto), Chicago Botanical Gardens,
Philadelphia Museum of Art, Cheekwood Botanical Gardens (Nashville),
Oakland
Art Museum, Dixon Gallery & Gardens (Memphis), Museum of Fine Arts Boston,
Minneapolis Art Institute, Legion of Honor Fine Arts Museum of San
Francisco,
Houston
Museum of Fine Arts, New Orleans Museum of Fine Arts, Cleveland Botanical Garden
and the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore.
She
was the organizer of the Annual 'Survival of the Creative Minds' Conference in
Taos, New Mexico and has served 6 years on AIFD Membership Review Committee
and
6 years on their Education Committee. She
has also contributed and illustrated in ‘The AIFD Guide to Floral
Design – Terms, Techniques and Traditions’ (2005).
Hitomi
has co-authored books including ‘Earth Man Spirit’ with John Haines AIFD and
Sanford Mauldin, a photo essay of Creative American Design (1994) -
two
Textbooks ‘Fundamental Theories of Design’ (1997) and ‘Design
Compendium: Styles & Methods’ (1999) with John Haines. - 'CREATIVE
EDGE -
A
Floral Retrospective' with Philippe Martin-Morice (2007) - ‘Neotropoica
- Hawaii Tropical Flower + Plant Guide'.
She
was the author of the book titled ‘Artflor–Advanced Design + Process’ (2006)
and is also an instructor at Teleflora Education Center and
a member of the
Specialists Team, as
well as the columnist for Flowers & Magazine, ‘Creative Edge’ exploring
creative design concepts.
One
of only 7 recipients of AIFD ‘DESIGN INFLUENCE’ AWARD –
(awarded to
individuals who have made a significant impact and influence with their
signature design style)
in 1998 at
AIFD National Symposium in Boston.
In
2006 Hitomi was the recipient of the American Horticultural Society’s
‘Frances Jones Poetker Award’
bestowed
on a person who has made significant contributions to the appreciation of
creative floral designs in publications, on the platform, and to the public.
In
2008 she was the recipient of Gold Honors for By Invitation Only ‘Windows
to the World' International Floral Exhibit
at Singapore Garden Festival
and the winner of ‘Best of Show'.
In
2009, Hitomi was bestowed with Lifetime Honorary Membership to Garden Club of
America at GCA's
Annual General Meeting in Providence, RI.

These
two special MasterClass Workshops (separate titles) have been significantly funded by the
Australian Floral Art Association Inc (AFAA),
as
a promotion of Floral Art and align with the Association’s aims
of
providing opportunities to further develop designing skills.
Each
of the 7 AFAA State Member groups will be apportioned a number of places at each
of these
MasterClass
Workshops and entry will be determined by each AFAA State Member group.
It
is envisaged that those attending these two special MasterClass Workshops by
Hitomi Gilliam AIFD,
will
then present occasions where they will disseminate their acquired knowledge and
skills to the floral art community around Australia.

information will be distributed by states shortly.

The
Boulevard Centre will showcase all floral exhibits (staged on the
8th September 2010) and 15
competitive
classes (staged on the 9th September 2010)
The
Boulevard Centre will also accommodate the special Opening/Award
Presentation evening on
Thursday the 9th
September 2010 where participants, sponsors and friends will gather to celebrate
the
4th
Australian Floral Design Convention
'FLORAL
RENDEZVOUS 2010'
The
Boulevard Centre – a boutique state-of-the-art multi-purpose facility, is
located on the lower level of the
Cambridge
Library building and within the Floreat Forum Shopping Centre complex.
This
centre is close to the city (10-15 minutes) and only minutes to the beach, with
easy parking and
close
to major traffic routes, the Mitchell Freeway and West Coast Highway (approx
13 minute drive to the Rendezvous Observation City Hotel).
Being
adjacent to the Floreat Forum's Town Square shops, cafes and tavern, make
this centre the perfect location for this prestigious event.
Dismantling
of all exhibits will be on Sunday the 12th September.
The
Australian Floral Art Association Inc (AFAA) annual meeting will be held on
Monday
the 13th September at the Boulevard Centre from 9.00am to 2.00pm.

Beach sand and sparkling

leisurely 30-minute drive from the airport and just 15 minutes from downtown
Perth, a great place to
base
yourself while exploring our beautiful city (approx 13 minute drive to the
Boulevard Centre).

Rendezvous Hotel enjoys convenient access to Hillary’s Boat Harbour,

Karrinyup
Shopping Centre and the port city of Fremantle.
A

the National Demonstrations followed in the afternoon by the special floral
spectacular presented by

Ballroom will then be transformed into a seated venue
to
accommodate the special Gala Dinner.
