WA FLORAL ART SOCIETY INC 'EXHIBITING'
The West Australian Floral Art Society Inc determines a 'Yearly Show Schedule' where members of this society can compete on a monthly basis (staging exhibits at meetings is not compulsory), staging exhibits in a variety of classes. For a list of titles and subjects to be staged at monthly meetings and general society information please following this 'links'.
The 'Show Benches' are for members who wish to compete and progress through the various sections (Junior, Novice, Intermediate & Senior Sections). Members competing in these sections are required to achieve a number of 1st places before they can progress to the next section.
The 'Open Benches' are designed for those members who have completed all sections in the 'Show Benches' or for any member who wishes to stage exhibits in these other benches. These include a Foliage Class, Open Section, Members Choice Section and Interpretative Section.
Monthly 'Awards' are presented to those receiving a 1st place in the various classes. Points are also awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd placings at meetings and contribute towards the Society 'Annual Awards'.
The West Australian Floral Art Society Inc encourages members to exhibit in the ‘Show Benches’. These benches allow members to progress through various stages in floral art. JUNIOR SECTION
Section for junior members 12 years or under. NOVICE SECTION This section is where members start to exhibit and a member must achieve 3
1st placings in one year to move into the Intermediate Section. INTERMEDIATE SECTION This section is the next stage and a member must achieve 4 1st placings
in one year to move into the Senior Section. SENIOR SECTION This section is the final section before completing the 'Show Benches' and is
where members must attain 8 1st placings before completing this section.
This is the only section where members can accrue points from one year to
the next, but a member must attain 4 1st placings in one year for these points
to carry through to the following years.
Other classes available for members to compete in are titled 'OPEN BENCHES'. The format for these classes is : FOLIAGE CLASS – This
means that no flowers may be used in your design, neither may seeds, berries or
fruit as these are the end result of the flower. The
definition of foliage as stated in the Australian Floral Art Association (AFAA)
National Manual (see page 53) states :
Foliage may be painted, as this class is “No Restrictions (N/R)”. Points accrued in this
section do not contribute to members moving through the 'Show Benches'.
Points awarded in this section go towards the annual ‘Society Award’. MEMBERS CHOICE All members are able to exhibit in this section and can exhibit any style of
arrangement. Points accrued in this
section do not contribute to members moving through the 'Show Benches'.
Points awarded in this section go towards the annual ‘Society Award’. INTERPRETATIVE SECTION
This section is an interpretative class and members exhibit in this section
depicting the title as per the 'Yearly Show Schedule'. Points accrued in this section do not contribute to members moving
through the 'Show Benches'. Points
awarded in this section go towards the annual ‘Society Award’. OPEN SECTION
This section is an ‘Open’ class and members exhibit in this section
according to the appropriate title on the 'Yearly Show Schedule'. Points accrued in this section do not contribute to members moving
through the 'Show Benches'. Points
awarded in this section go towards the annual ‘Society Award’.
DEFINITION SUBJECTS (D) Where a ‘D’ appears after a title on a show
schedule this denotes a ‘Definition Subject’ and members must exhibit
under the guidelines of the WA Floral Art Society Inc ruling. (as per the WA
Floral Art Society handbook)
SPACE ALLOWED The space allowed on benches is 2’6” or 75cms.
NO RESTRICTIONS (N/R) Refers to the use of painted, treated, paper mache, freeze dried or wired materials. These devices generally may NOT BE USED on the 'Show Benches. However, if the schedule states N/R then they may be used. Also, if the handbook indicates that it is normal such as in Modern, then again they may be used. CHECK AFAA MANUAL AND READ THE SCHEDULE CAREFULLY.
ORIGINALITY Floral arrangements must be the original work of the exhibitor and not a recognisable copy of any other persons work or from books & magazines.
At
each meeting an ‘ESME COOPS AWARD’ is awarded to a particular exhibit.
This award is named after the founder of the Society and is awarded to
the ‘Best on the Day’ and selected from exhibits gaining a 1st
place only. A
‘COLOUR AWARD’ is awarded to a particular exhibit and is selected
from exhibits gaining a 1st, 2nd or 3rd place only.
A 'CREATIVE AWARD' is awarded to a design selected from any exhibit staged at monthly meetings deemed to have a 'Creative Technique' or design.
PRIZES
FOR PLACINGS
Each 1st, 2nd and 3rd placing receives a certificate and 1st places are awarded a prize at monthly meetings. There are 10 different categories where 1st place prizes are allocated.
POINT ALLOCATION
Points are awarded at meetings for members attaining a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Three (3) points are awarded for a 1st place, two (2) points for a 2nd place and one (1) point for a 3rd place. These points accrue towards yearly trophies.
