| WA Floral Art Society 2008 Special Christmas Meeting - 13th December 2008
Follow these links for a quick reference to our special CHRISTMAS MEETING -:
The December meeting for this society heralds a special time where Annual Society Awards are awarded to members for outstanding contributions. This year the prestigious Society Award was won by Kay Robinson. Our Annual Xmas Meeting also provides members and guests with a special demonstration, which was this year provided by talented floral designer Valerie Roy. Please follow the links below for further information and photographs of designs staged at this meeting.
This
special meeting had visitors offering appreciative comments to members on their floral expertise, their
hospitality, friendly meeting, excellent demonstration and wonderful afternoon
tea.
Congratulations to the competitors who created the stunning table
settings in the 'IT'S CHRISTMAS
N/R', this class certainly attracted much interest and
admiration. Congratulations to Denise Shelbourn who was awarded the 1st place with
her beautiful table setting.
The 2nd place was awarded to Chris Lederer and the 3rd place to Chris
Gray. These innovative table settings certainly created a
‘focal area’ in the competitive classes and
together with the other bench designs provided a beautiful display for everyone
to admire and enjoy.
This meeting saw VALERIE ROY providing the special Christmas demonstration titled 'CHRISTMAS MEMOIRS' (to view a report and photographs of this demonstration follow this link)
Mrs Joan Tonkin MBE, our dedicated Society Patron, provided and presented the annual 'Patrons Award' which was won this year by Kay Robinson for her design in the Senior Section.
A
wonderful meeting further promoting floral art in Western Australia and 'Friendship Through Flowers'.

Special Christmas Demonstration by Valerie Roy titled
"CHRISTMAS MEMOIRS". Notes
from demonstration at WAFAS meeting December 08 Report compiled by Sharon Cunningham
Our
members and guests were treated to an afternoon floral demonstration by
Valerie Roy titled ‘Christmas Memoirs’. Thank
you Val for such a very interesting journey back into your family traditions at
Christmas, from where you grew up in the northern woods of Behind
each design - from the Advent Wreath,
The Choir (An abstract constructed from palm spathes),
the constructed ‘Tree’ filled
with lilies, paper mache Sleigh,
white parallel Ice Structure,
to the display of Christmas Designs
pre-constructed placed at the front to finish off this spectacular
demonstration, all had a special meaning for Valerie and her family.
With carrying out these designs from the beginning, we were able to see how Val
had constructed and prepared her interpretative work and how she manipulated the
material to work so well with her designs. The
Spirit of Christmas was certainly upon us as shown with help from young
Gabrielle (Valerie’s daughter), decorating each piece with baubles,
cones, and flowers. Thank
you to Debbie and Dianne for helping Valerie with staging and setting up, in
particular presenting Val with the ‘Inukshuk’ to remind her of home.
SINCERE THANKS ARE EXTENDED TO VAL FOR HER WONDERFUL DEMONSTRATION.
Altogether a lovely demonstration to end our 2008 floral year.

WA FLORAL ART SOCIETY INC - ANNUAL AWARDS FOR 2007/2008 Our Christmas meeting was the perfect time to acknowledge our members floral art contributions for the 2007-2008 floral art year. Members who staged designs throughout this period were acknowledged for their efforts and while only a few can be rewarded at the end of the year – this society is very privileged to have such a wealth of talent - who by staging designs at monthly meetings actually create ‘Mini Floral Exhibitions’ every month !.
