| WA FLORAL ART SOCIETY INC 'AT HOME' 2008 Meeting
The West Australian Floral Art Society Inc held a very successful floral afternoon on Saturday the 14th June 2008, where invitations were extended to floral art clubs, fellow flower arrangers, guests, family and friends to share in a special mid year meeting titled 'AT HOME'.
The staging of the Societies annual Members Championship competitions were also conducted during this meeting providing a 'Floral Feast' of textures, forms, patterns and colours showcasing the floral talents of members from this Society.
A special demonstration was conducted during the 'At Home' meeting by talented Floral Designer MRS AKIKO CHESTER (see images below). To read a special report (compiled by Pene Brunning) please follow this link..

The WA Floral Art Society had the delightful and very talented Akiko Chester as their guest demonstrator at their June at Home Meeting. This popular annual event was open to all floral art clubs, family, friends and the general public to come and join the members at their meeting, to enjoy the creativity of the exhibition benches, (exhibit in some classes) view the entries in the Club Championship and enjoy the Ikebana demonstration followed by a scrumptious afternoon tea.
Akiko
Chester an accomplished Ikebana floral designer has been personally acknowledged
by the Emperor and Empress of Japan at the Japanese Palace for her
contribution to the Japanese Culture. She came to Australia in 1955 as a
war bride and has been involved with the Japanese Consulate and the ABC to
instruct and demonstrate the Japanese culture in cooking, dress and floral art
ever since.
Everyone
was enthralled by this gracious and skilled woman who created within an hour 12
wonderful and varied designs. All material was collected from her garden
and with minimal material and mechanics Akiko created designs of elegance and
style by using the line, curve and space to maximum effect. The simplicity
of the Japanese design disguises the degree of difficulty of this style of
floral art. Akiko said that Japanese women use the art of floral design to
help them keep young and this delightful woman in her 80’s is certainly an
exceptional example of this.
