WA FLORAL ART SOCIETY INC '2003 CHRISTMAS MEETING'

Our special Christmas Meeting was a wonderful afternoon where members, fellow floral artists from other clubs, family and friends joined together to share this day which was filled with a flourish of friendship, flowers and fun.

A wonderful display of colourful and innovative designs greeted our visitors and guests providing a stunning exhibition and highlighting the creative talents of floral artists in this state.  An Open Class titled Alternative Christmas Tree’ provided an array of 20 stunning exhibits ranging from small delicate Christmas trees to some innovative designs including bark and palm with some extending to 7ft in height. These designs provided a beautiful display for all floral artists to admire and enjoy - lasting through the Christmas period bringing joy to all who are able to view them. The first place in this class was awarded to Stan Mitchell, with Elaine Holden, Betty Dewing and Joyce Van Kleef  all placing equal second.  The third place was awarded to Glenis Watts.

Mrs Joan Tonkin MBE, our dedicated Society Patron, provided and presented the annual ‘Patrons Award’ which was won this year by Denise Shelbourne for her design staged in the Members Choice Section.

This meeting saw guest floral designer Mavonney Reith provide the demonstration titled, ‘The Magic of Christmas’.  Mavonney presented a beautiful exhibition of creative Christmas ideas.  These included a very large and two small Christmas Trees - an impressive display for large rooms, a beautiful wedding table decoration, stunning Christmas Dinner table decorations, a beautiful Christmas design created in a palm boot, candle holders made from reticulation parts covered in ivy and a Christmas pudding decoration.  This demonstration was the perfect end to our floral art year and early start to Christmas celebrations.

Another short demonstration titled ‘Ritzy Recycling’ by Dianne Buckles, offered instructions on turning Christmas and other cards into little ‘Treasure Boxes’ - a great idea to present small gifts in, and a terrific way to keep children occupied during the school holidays.

The ‘Sing-A-Long’ with guest pianist Shirley Woods (member of the Flower Designers Club of Bunbury) was another area providing entertainment and the unique ’Flower Arrangers Christmas Carol’ certainly portrayed our members and fellow floral artists extremely well.

A wonderful meeting further promoting floral art in Western Australia and 'Friendship Through Flowers'.
